Appetite for Reduction: cranberry-cashew biryani
I finally broke out Appetite for Reduction, Isa Chandra Moskowitz' latest cookbook, and made the cranberry cashew biryani last night for dinner. I'm no fat-phobe, but it's good to cut back on the oil whenever possible. If this recipe is any indication of the other recipes' deliciousness, I'm going to be cooking from this book a lot. (I have only good things to say about her books anyway, so I'm really excited about trying more from Appetite for Reduction.) There's so much flavor, and very little in the way of refined ingredients. It's also really pretty--red cranberries, orange carrots, green peas, and the beautiful yellow of turmeric in the rice. I added a can of chickpeas near the end of cooking to make it a one-dish meal.
